Xiao joined the School of Law of the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics in January 2016. She obtained her SJD degree at the Faculty of Law of the University of Hong Kong. Her dissertation explores the legal and regulatory framework for nonprofit service-providing organizations in China in the broader context of the country’s recent charity law reform. Apart from nonprofit and charity law, her research interests span the areas of corporate and commercial law, law and development, and interdisciplinary legal studies.


Xiao received LLB and LLM degrees from the East China University of Political Science and Law, Shanghai, and an LLM degree from the University of Michigan Law School. She is a recipient of the 2009 Jones Day International Legal Fellowship and the 2012 Michigan Grotius Fellowship, and holds the PRC Legal Professional Qualification Certificate.
